Dragon Court Sponsors Junior Dragon Boat Regatta 26th April 2008
This second annual event organised by the Henley Dragon Boat Club was held on 26 April at Marsh Meadows, Henley with 70 competitors from Scout and Cadet groups, schools and sports clubs.
The Eye-dotting Ceremony (also known as the ‘Waking of the Dragon’) is steeped in Chinese tradition and is performed at the start of all international dragon boat races. The Mayor of Henley, Councillor Terry Bucket, performed the ‘eye dotting’ and opened the start of the day’s activities.
The grand final was a rematch of last year’s final with Brakspear Aspire Blue from Brakspear Catholic School in St Albans beating the Wyrmlyns from Wokingham Dragons with the fastest time of the day at one minute 42 seconds. The Mayor along with Edwin Bowles from Dragon Court presented the trophies to the winning teams.
